The Indian stock market will observe a trading holiday on Wednesday, April 17, in observance of Ram Navami, the birth anniversary of Lord Ram. Both major stock exchanges, BSE and NSE, have announced the closure for this religious holiday.
Investors can refer to the official websites of BSE and NSE for a comprehensive list of stock market holidays in 2024. According to the BSE’s holiday schedule, trading activities will be suspended across all segments, including Equity, Derivatives, SLB, Currency Derivatives, and Interest Rate Derivatives.
However, commodity trading on MCX will have a partial closure, with the morning session suspended and the evening session open from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm on April 17.
Looking ahead, there are two more stock market holidays in May 2024. The first falls on May 1 for Maharashtra Day, followed by another on May 20 due to the Lok Sabha elections.
Regarding recent market performance, on Tuesday, both Sensex and Nifty 50 experienced significant losses. The Sensex dropped by 690.99 points (0.94%) to 72,708.79, while the Nifty 50 declined by 183.95 points (0.83%) to 22,088.55.
This downturn was attributed to various factors, including weak global cues, tensions in the Middle-East due to the Iran-Israel conflict, a strengthening US dollar, rising US Treasury yields, and continued selling by Foreign Institutional Investors (FII).
