Following the recent renaming of the Ayodhya railway station, the Uttar Pradesh government is reportedly planning to name the newly constructed international airport as ‘Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya Dham.’
This decision comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled inauguration of the new airport on Saturday. Additionally, the redeveloped Ayodhya railway station, now named Ayodhya Dham junction, will also be inaugurated as part of the preparations for the grand consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple on January 22.
The Ayodhya International Airport, costing over ₹1,450 crore, will be named after Maharishi Valmiki, the revered saint who authored the epic “Ramayana.” With an area of 6,500 square meters, the airport has the capacity to serve more than 10 lakh passengers annually.
The airport’s architectural style mirrors that of the Ram temple, and its interior spaces are adorned with indigenous artworks, paintings, and murals depicting various aspects of Lord Ram’s life.
**Sustainability Features:**
The airport is equipped with several sustainability features, including an insulated roofing system, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, landscaping with fountains, a water treatment plant, a sewage treatment plant, and a solar power plant. These initiatives are aimed at achieving a five-star GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) rating.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) emphasized the realization of PM Modi’s vision for the redeveloped city of Ayodhya, stating that the new airport, redeveloped railway station, widened and beautified roads, and other civic infrastructure projects are in line with this vision.
The inauguration will be accompanied by the laying of foundation stones for additional projects contributing to the beautification and enhancement of civic facilities in and around Ayodhya.
